The Ritual: 3-Ingredient Plant-Based Shells

The Ritual: 3-Ingredient Plant-Based Shells

A simple, healing alternative to processed tortillas. Perfect for tacos, wraps, or just snacking with the kids.

What You’ll Need:

    •    Green Plantains: (The greener they are, the more savory and "starchy" the shell will be).

    •    High-Quality Oil: (Olive oil or Avocado oil work beautifully here).

    •    Sea Salt: (To ground the flavor and add minerals).

    •    A splash of water: (To help with the consistency).

The Process:

1    Peel & Prep: Peel your plantains and cut them into small chunks. Boil them in a pot of water until they are tender (usually about 10–15 minutes).

2    Mash with Intention: Drain the water and move the plantains to a bowl. Add a splash of oil and a pinch of sea salt. This is the part where I get the kids involved! We mash them down until they are smooth and dough-like.

3    The Press: Take a small ball of dough and press it flat between two pieces of parchment paper. You can use a heavy pan or a rolling pin.

4    The Crisp: Lightly oil a skillet over medium heat. Place your shell in the pan and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until they have a beautiful golden glow.

The Body is a Temple

In our home, the kitchen is our classroom. As a homeschooling mama, I’m teaching my kids that their bodies are sacred temples. We talk about how the food we eat is a "deposit" into that temple. When they make good deposits, the static clears. They can hear their own inner voice more clearly and stay connected to Source. Teaching them to peel, mash, and cook these plantains isn't just a life skill—it’s a lesson in self-respect. We are honoring the vessel that carries our spirit.

Let’s Connect

I’d love to hear from you. How are you honoring your "temple" today? Whether it’s a slow-cooked meal, a moment of silence, or a deep breath, drop a comment below and let’s share our rituals.
